We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller (CPA required) with a strong background in the Canadian construction industry to partner directly with ownership and executive management on high-level financial initiatives.
Our team has capable professionals managing daily accounting functions. What we need is a strategic leader who understands construction environments and can take ownership of executive-level projects, financial planning, and process improvement initiatives.
This is not a routine accounting position. Work directly with ownership on financial planning and strategic initiatives. Lead ad hoc executive-level projects including:
- Financial forecasting & planning
- Liaising with external tax planners
- Accounting software implementation & optimization
- Oversee and strengthen month-end and year-end processes
- Ensure accurate reconciliations and structured financial workflows

Provide guidance on - Expense recognition. Capital vs. operating expenditure decisions. Depreciation strategies. Oversee job costing, WIP reporting, and construction project accounting. Identify and resolve financial or operational issues as they arise. Build structure, improve processes, and support team accountability.

Qualifications & Experience - CPA designation (required). Minimum 7+ years of accounting experience. Strong experience in a Canadian construction environment (medium-sized business preferred). Deep understanding of - Construction project accounting, job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, proven ability to manage complex accounting workflows, strong business acumen with the ability to balance financial accuracy and operational realities, detail-oriented with excellent analytical skills, strong leadership and communication skills, ability to structure processes and guide accounting teams effectively.
