OTTAWA - Voter support for the federal Liberals dropped dramatically in the days following the auditor general's report into the sponsorship scandal, according to results of a new poll.



The Ipsos-Reid poll, conducted for the Globe and Mail and CTV News, shows Liberal support at 39 per cent, down from 48 per cent in January.





The poll was conducted immediately after Auditor General Sheila Fraser released her report that said $100 million in commissions and fees were paid for little or no work.



The Conservatives moved up to 24 per cent from 19 per cent, and the NDP rose two percentage points to 18 per cent.



The poll surveyed 1,055 Canadians over a three-day period, starting Feb. 10. It's considered accurate to within 3.9 percentage points 19 times out of 20.



Paul Martin, who was sworn in as prime minister in December, has promised an inquiry into $250 million in advertising contracts awarded under the sponsorship program.



Four cabinet ministers under former prime minister Jean Chrétien and a clutch of senior bureaucrats were cited Friday as potential witnesses in the inquiry.

Скажи мне - есть ли одна страна в мире, в который судьи верховных судов выбираются? Назови хоть одну единственную.... Это раз.



Второе - ты совершенно не знаешь, судя по всему, что самая старая демократия с мире живет точно по той же системе - и что касается выборов, и премьер-министров, и судей... И оказывается более устойчивой, чем какие-либо другие демократии... Как же бедная Англия не свернула с демократической традиции?



Так что дело не в тех принципах, которые ты упомянул, а в чем-то другом, что делает Канаду тебе так малоприемлимой, уж совсем не недостаток демократии (или того, что ты понимаешь, как демократией)....

В Великобритании демократические традиции замешаны на традициях имперских, поэтому гимн демократии там не "Отречемся...", а "Боже, храни ...". Стало быть, Северной Ирландии не светит присоединение с Ирландии, по крайней мере в обозримое время.

В Канаде мы имеем постколониальное государство, которое почти что "отреклось", но не знает, что "хранить", что усугубляется федеративной политической структурой с сильнейшим подфедеративным неформальным влияние национальных групп (скандал с индусами в БКолумбии - показателен). Население такого государства значительно больше подвержено влиянию пропаганды, что и позволяет либералам так долго держаться у власти. Все остальное - следствие.

При этом уже сейчас очевидно, причем именно в низах, что экономическая политика ведет в падению экспорта, а, следовательно, и падению производства - то есть, разрушению основ канадской экономики, позволявшей либералам столь безбедно править столько лет. Я уже сейчас жду закрытия своей фабрики, потому, что такой высокий канадский доллар сьедает всю прибыль. Более того, такая политика имеет значительно более далеко идущие последствия - увы. хотя с правящепартийных высот этого может быть и не видно.

The Judges are nominated by the President and have to be approved by the majority of Congress (2/3 of Senate and certain proportion of the House).
