I think you are mistaken, Ksena, read the quote from the website link you provided earlier:

It is not a detdom with hundreds of kids actually living there and vospitateliami, like in Russia.

I didn't mention anywhere the quality of foster care in Canada. Even an idiot would guess it's better than in Russia (duh!). Nothing compares to what kids have to go through over there. Cruelity, abuse and indifference is a common thing.

You do say detskii dom, not Foster care. Oh well, I do agree with you in general and do wish children were taken better care of in Russia. Dum spiro, spero. Peace.

KsenA, Children's Aid always tries to put children in a foster home first. Then, if children/mostly youth have issues that require professional attention, such as drug/alcohol addiction, suicidal tendencies, mental health issues, etc., they are put in treatment facilities (not a mama/papa setting) where the get around the clock specialized care. In addition to being a better environment for the children, foster homes are cheaper for Children's Aid, than treatment facilities.

Yes I said Детские дома существуют. And? They exist. Of course they are not called "Детские дома" because this is an English-speaking country and it would be quite unusual for a canadian institution to have a russian name.

What I meant (and I hope this time you actually read what I write) is that there Are institutions in Canada where children live without parents.

Such institutions do exist, but they have nothing to do with child protection issues (i.e. "detskii dom" type issues). A child with drug/alcohol problem, etc. (see my post above) can be sent to a treatment facility without papa/mama, even if he/she comes from the most blagopoluchnaya family.

I'm talking about children who LIVE IN INSTITUTIONS WITHOUT PARENTS. They not neccessarily have drug/etc. problems. They just DO NOT HAVE PARENTS. They were not adopted for some reason or another.

KsenA, re the information that I provided, I think you meant "may noone need it". There are no group homes in the region where are work. However, I asked around other agencies, and it turns out that group homes do exist in certain other regions. Most of the children that are sent to group homes have issues that require special care, but its possible for a normal child to be placed in a group home if no foster home is available or a group home setting is better for the child (ex. older children). This was a surprise to me, as I was also under the impression that group homes are a thing of the past in Canada.
